One day I walked to the river on an overcast warm fall day. I knew that part of the river to be politely crowded with rocks and ferns - a perfect place for snakes. That feeling you get when someone is watching you hit me and I looked down to see a really big copperhead. She knew I was coming and I could tell she wanted to leave and if she knew me somehow in a past life, she knew I wanted to get away as fast as she did. I jumped as high as I could over her and scrambled up a few boulders until we were both safe. That's how I remember it, I hope she's thriving.
