Cicadas have a special place in my heart. They are loud but their noise will rock me to sleep. This past Spring, two different broods of periodical cicadas emerged at the same time. A 13-year brood XIX and a 17-year brood X!!! This hasn’t happened since 1803. This massive emergence covered much of middle America and across the Southern coastal plains to Appalachia. The Periodical Cicada, with its red eyes, giant wingspan and screaming mating calls graced us once again with its presence, if only for a fleeting few weeks.
This cicada pairs well with my bead strand necklaces, or if you have a chain at home. Just make sure that the connection jump ring which is 6mm wide will fit onto your chain. This style of my cicadas is lighter in weight compared to my original cicadas.
Note to buyer: The reclaiming process is a bit of a long one. Most of the sterling silver I buy is from well used jewelry that isn't being worn anymore or has been broken. I also buy used sterling silverware. I melt it all down and roll it into sheet and wire. This means that I don't have to buy freshly mined silver that is much easier to work with. Reclaimed pieces cost more because of this extra process. In the end, reclaiming metal for my wares is gratifying and worth it to me. I hope you feel the same. With love
