Salamander Necklace
Sterling silver - reclaimed
16-18” adjustable Tsavorite green garnet bead strand
This bead strand closes with a handmade clasp and is adjustable with sterling silver chain that I added at the ends of the beads.
This salamander was the first thing I made in this collection and it sat around until I could muster the energy to know what I needed to put on it. The ferns started popping off the middle of April and the color of the woods became so intense with green that I HAD to make a fern. The creek I live near holds so many salamanders that it’s hard to step foot into the water because I worry I’m going to step on one. Anyway, this piece all came together with the help from my backyard. I love this one so much that I don’t know how to let it go. Excited to see who gets it.
Note to buyer: The reclaiming process is a bit of a long one. Most of the sterling silver I buy is from well used jewelry that isn't being worn anymore or has been broken. I also buy used sterling silverware. I melt it all down and roll it into sheet and wire. This means that I don't have to buy freshly mined silver that is much easier to work with. Reclaimed pieces cost morebecause of this extra process. In the end, reclaiming metal for my wares is gratifying and worth it to me. I hope you feel the same. With love.
