River Otter Bolo
Sterling silver - 90% reclaimed
Brass letter
Soft cowhide leather bought from a small business in rural Kentucky
Three layers of sterling silver make up this one of a kind, won't find anywhere but here, bolo.
This bolo is made with so much precision. Those letters are hand-sawn by me. Completely hand forged and I loved every minute of it. The tips are repurposed .22 caliber bullet casings that were dug from my yard when planting our garden. I love finding bits and pieces from the people that lived here long before me. My older neighbors tell me about this family that lived in a very small cabin with no electricity. They raised pigs, fruit trees, had a big garden and lived a very simple life. Repurposing the casings and adding them to this bolo brings joy to me.
Animal tracks are fascinating to me simply because its’s proof the animal was there. I don't own a game camera, so seeing tracks gets me excited to know what is sharing the land around me. Having an otter on the property is so special. I haven't seen it, but my husband has. I keep walking down to the creek to get a glimpse, but I just find its tracks instead. That's okay though, I know its there and that we share a love for that creek.
Made with love - one of a kind, twisted, bent, set, sawn, etched, fired by my own two hands.
